Yesterday morning, I was honored to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in support of Belinda and her fight against breast cancer. Brenda, Monica and I had wanted to form a team to walk in the race with Belinda. Monica came up with the name Bee's Bosom Buddies and we came up with the design for the shirt, which Thuy brought to fruition for us.
Most of the team met up at Monica's house in the morning and then headed to Downtown. After parking, we walked towards the Start Line. It was really crowded and a little chaotic--but in a good way. It was amazing to see all the people and teams.
It was great weather for the walk though it did start to warm up by the end. But it was still a beautiful Houston day!! It took us longer to walk than normal because of the sheer amount of people walking. But we didn't care.
We made our way to the finish line and they had a section for the survivors to cross the finish line and be recognized. I don't think Belinda knew of it beforehand, but Steven told her to go and we waited to watch her come through. It was Beyond moving and inspirational. She has been so positive and strong in this and I am so happy that she is winning the battle so far. And I pray that she will be win her battle against this dreadful disease.
Andrew had his soccer game at 9am so they weren't able to join us for the walk and I was able to attend the game. But James called me when they were done and we were about halfway through the 5K. He said he would try to meet us at the finish line. We were able to find each other after a little while and then went to the tents to see about the goodies. We grab a few, but there wasn't much left. So, we headed back to our cars and went to Cafe Express for some lunch.
Bee's Bosom Buddies had a great showing yesterday with such wonderful friends and family. Our team raised over $1600. Not too bad for our first year. And a heart felt thank you to all my family and friends who supported Bee's Bosom Buddies. I am so grateful and humbled by all the love and generosity.
