Yesterday afternoon, we made another trip down to campus for Andrew's first Longhorn basketball game. The Horns were up against Texas State Bobcats. We thought that this might be a good game to go to because: (1) there might be less people attending with most of the students being back at home for the holidays; (2) there might be less people because the matchup wasn't too exciting; (3) we wouldn't feel too bad if we had to leave early; and (4) Uncle Anh Tuan's friend was able to get us free tickets to the game.
Andrew was very excited about the game especially wanting to meet Hook 'em. He sat very well and enjoyed looking around the arena. We kept an eye out for Hook 'em while we watched the game. Drew loved when the band played Texas Fight and kept asking for The Eyes of Texas (to which we told him he would have to wait until the end of the game). He did a great job clapping when appropriate and throwing up his horns too!
During halftime, we went to go look for some ice cream. I asked a gentleman about how best to go about trying to meet Hook 'em. The guy said we could go down to the lower level and see if we could find him. And it shouldn't be a problem to walk down to meet him.
We went downstairs, found some empty seats, and started to watch the game a bit until we finally saw Hook 'em--all the way on the other side of the arena!! We tracked him as he walked around greeting fans and weren't sure if he would get close to us. And sure enough, by the time he was closing in to where we sitting, it was near the end of the game. I was worried that after the game, he would rush off or have other things he would have to so we walked down as fast as we could (as we sang The Eyes of Texas might I add). There were a lot of kids going to see Hook 'em too and it got pretty crowded. I was scared about Andrew getting trampled. Then, I saw Hook 'em starting to walk away and reached out to him and asked if he would take a picture with Andrew to which he graciously agreed. I didn't get as good as a picture as I wanted because it was too hard of an angle and there were other kids were in line to get pictures taken too. I was trying to hurry as fast as I could before Hook 'em had to leave.
As much as Andrew was excited about meeting Hook 'em, at the end of the day, he ended up being more excited about the cheerleaders. He really liked the stunts including the lifts and tosses. Of course, Daddy and I joke that he is already growing a thing for cute cheerleaders!!
It was a great experience for Andrew's first basketball game. And I was so happy that everything worked out especially that Andrew was able to meet Hook 'em and the Horns won the game!
**Note: And I know that Andrew is wearing the same Longhorn sweatshirt as yesterday, but I promise he had a different burnt orange shirt on underneath! ;)
