Andrew helped Mommy make Ngoai a birthday cake. He did a great job pouring the mix and water. Mommy cracked the eggs. Andrew held the hand mixer with some assistance with Mommy and helped to pour the batter into the baking pan. He then scattered the sprinkles and spilled a little so started eating them. a little break from baking.
He loved checking on the cake and watching it rise and cook. He really didn't want to wait for it to cool, but thankfully did. A little messy, but not too bad. I was worried about him scraping off the cake, but he didn't.
The whole time, he kept saying he wanted to eat it, but I had to keep telling him we had to wait for tomorrow so we could sing Happy Birthday to Ngoai and let her blow out the candles. He seemed fine with that until the next time he asked to eat the cake.
So, after lunch today, we surprised her with cake. Andrew sang most of the song and really wanted to blow out the candles. Of course, Ngoai let him!
Also, there was another reason to celebrate as we got some very positive news today. This morning, Andrew had another speech assessment since it has been six months since we started therapy. Andrew did very well during the assessment considering how long it was, which was about an hour. Daddy met us towards the end of the appointment so he could be there to hear the results. Ms. Gretchen will have to do all the formal scoring, but she was able to give us a very informal summary of his progress. When we started, Andrew was about three to six months behind, but now is about two months ahead of the average for his age. Gretchen is very pleased with Andrew's progress and is confident we will be able to improve his speech and language even more. Daddy and I are thrilled too!
Happy Belated Birthday, Ngoai!! We love you very much and appreciate everything you do for us!
