This morning, we went to Gymboree class where the objective of the curriculum was side by side. We went down the slide side by side. We rolled balls side by side. We jumped side by side. And we just played whatever else side by side. Our teacher, Ms. Angie, just wants us to use the words and show it to the kids so that they just start to get the idea. I wasn't sure how much Andrew would understand the concept. I mean he has lined up things (namely, his trains and cars) next to each other before, but we normally use the words "next." But I wanted to just lay down the groundwork and see how it went.
Well, Andrew started playing with the cones--stacking them as always. But I put them next to each other and told him "side by side". Then, he proceeded to stack them again. Defeated. Mommy tried one more time. Again defeated. Mommy tried one more time. Success! Andrew put the cones side by side. I was so happy! Then, we applied the theory elsewhere. Andrew came across these foam discs with Gymbo on it. I asked him to put them side by side; and sure enough, bingo! Mommy was so proud!
After Gymboree, we made our way down to League City to spend the day with Ngoai. After eating lunch, a trip to the grocery store, and a nap, Andrew was playing with his toys as he always does while Ngoai and Mommy prepared for dinner. I went to go check on him and came across this...
Later on, Drew was playing with some more trucks on the ottoman. They were somewhat lined up, but not quite. I asked him to put them side by side; and this is what he did.
