Cousin Duc

My cousin Duc was in Dallas for a conference. Luckily for us, he decided to come to Houston after the conference before heading back home to Los Angeles. Uncle Anh Tuan drove in Sunday morning (he didn't come in on Saturday because he and his team were busy winning a volleyball tourney--hooray!), stopped at the house for a bit, and then left to pick up Duc from the airport from where they would then head down to League City. The three of us were going to drive down a little later.

We met the guys at Aunt Hong's house where we hung out for a bit. Of course, Andrew played with Daisy, but found some time to play with Uncle Hung, Aunt Hong, and Ba Co. He was a little shy with Cousin Duc at first, but quickly warmed up to him. Andrew was even able to say "duh" for Duc. Afterwards, we drove over to Uncle 10's house to see some more family after which we would get some lunch. Well, go figure, Andrew fell asleep on the drive over. So, we let him sleep while we visited. After he woke up, we headed to a Thai restaurant for lunch. Andrew didn't really want to sit at the table because he wanted to go outside to see the train that was close to the restaurant. But he managed to eat some shrimp and flat noodles pretty well in between trips outside.

After lunch, we went to Ngoai's house to hang out with her for a little while. Andrew had fun playing with all his toys there and of course, playing with Uncle Anh Tuan and Cousin Duc. For dinner, we went back to Uncle 10's house where they were griling out chicken, beef, and oysters. They also boiled crab and fried some fish. Suffice it to say, there was an abundance of delicious food! Drew concurred by eating lots of chicken and totally digging the crab!! Andrew also had a great time with the cousins showing them his karaoke skills. They are so attentive and playful with him--I am so grateful for them all!

As it got late, we went back to Ngoai's house where Andrew and I would spend the night so we could hang out with the family while Daddy would drive back to our house so he could go to work. Andrew didn't fuss when Daddy left--we were so scared he might. But when we told Daddy was going home so he could go to work the next day, he seemed ok with that. Andrew climbed into Ngoai's bed and began his normal thrashing around to get comfortable. He flipped upside down and sure enough, that's how he fell asleep.

In the morning, we woke up and Andrew wanted to wake Uncle Anh Tuan as he normally does. But I took him outside for a walk trying to buy more time for Uncle to sleep. Andrew walked some, but wanted me to hold him most of the time (the stroller was in car). Anyhow, when we returned, Cousin Duc was awake so I told Andrew he could wake up Uncle. I was thinking he was going to pat or rather hit Uncle so I was totally taken aback when he sweetly went up to him and hugged him. It was so cute.

So, we all get ready and meet my Uncle Chuc, Aunt Anh, and Uncle 10 at a pho restaurant in Scarsdale for breakfast. Some of you might know that Vietnamese people will eat pho for breakfast; and my family is no different. I didn't order pho, but a chicken plate with eggrolls that Andrew could share with me. After breakfast, we did some grocery shopping for dinner tonight at Ngoai's house. Later in the afternoon, we went to Ngoai's shop so that all three guys could get haircuts. We let Anh Tuan go first so that Andrew could see. Initially, Andrew and I were going to stay home, but Andrew said "yeah" more than once to if he wanted a haircut. But when it was time for him to get one, he started wagging his finger and saying "no". Ha! Well, after some persuading, we sat in the chair; and Ngoai started to cut his hair. As soon as she started cutting, he was compliant. I guess he just gets scared right up until and then is fine after we start. After Duc's haircut, we headed back to Ngoai's house and started getting dinner ready. Uncle Anh Tuan grilled bacon-wrapped pork with brown sugar and potatoes with lemon and butter. Ngoai made shrimp skewers; and Mommy made green bean casserole. And Andrew ate tons of the casserole (Mommy snuck some cut up pork in there too). Andrew had another great time with our cousins again!

Before we knew, it was after 8pm. We needed to head home so that Andrew could see Daddy, take a bath, and go to bed. Anh Tuan and Duc are spending the night at our house so that Anh Tuan could take Duc to IAH in the morning.

Duc, we had a wonderful time with you! Thanks for coming in and for Andrew's toys! You spoil him too much! We can't wait to see you in Vegas!
