Classroom Visit

One of the things that Andrew's school does to prepare the parents and the kids for school is to have a classroom visit where we go to his classroom and get some time to talk to the teachers. It also affords the kids to see their classroom and begin to get acclimated. They offered two one-hour slots. This way there would be less kids so the kids wouldn't feel overwhelmed.

We chose to go at 11am so that Daddy could meet us for a little bit on his lunch break. Andrew walked in and was very shy at first. We introduced ourselves to his teachers, Ms. Faruolo and Ms. Quiroz. Then, I showed him around the room pointing out all the cool things that he would be able to play with at school including a Thomas and Percy train. Jackpot! He liked the water tub with boats and played there for a while. He also played with in the kitchen area. He even got food for Daddy and Mommy and later one of his classmates and Ms. Faruolo. That was progress.

Daddy had to leave to go back to work, but we stayed a bit longer. Andrew went to play with the puzzles and the blocks. He found a snowplow and he was on a mission to make a train. Some of the other kids were trying to grab some of his blocks, which did not go over well. But I told him they were trying to help him build his train and to give them some other blocks instead. And he did and that seemed to make it better.

Finally, it was time to go and we headed home. Andrew seemed okay, but very hesitant still. I am glad he played a little with the other kids. I hope they become fast friends and that will make the transition easier for him.

It's really starting to hit me that Andrew is going to school--I am getting so anxious!!
