After much anticipation and waiting, today was finally the day we were going to go to Dewberry Farm!! Unfortunately, it didn't work out that Josh could go with us as he was a little under the weather and they already had some family plans.
On Sundays, the farm opens at noon, which doesn't bode well for an outing with Andrew's afternoon nap. Daddy and I weren't too sure about what to do--go at noon and have Andrew take a late nap or go after nap. Well, we decided to do the former. We had breakfast and hung out at the house until it was time to leave. We weren't sure exactly how long it would take to get there and left early in case we got lost too.
Well, the drive was pretty easy and quick; we arrived about fifteen minutes prior to opening. I waited in the ticket line while Daddy took Andrew to look around. After we got our tickets, we walked to the back of the farm to see if the cow train was running, which it was not. We decided to take Andrew on the pony ride before we had to wait. Andrew is such a little pro at pony rides. He didn't want us to hold his hand and he went around and around all by himself.
After, we walked to this little area where you could race rubby duckies by pumping a water sprout. Daddy showed Andrew to pump the sprout up and down and Andrew tried hard to do it. He got it down decently. He had fun pumping the water, but had more fun getting the ducks at the end of the race.
Next, we ventured over to the playground where Andrew played with lots of bikes and trucks. The bikes were a little tall for him so he wasn't able to pedal. He played with the trucks in the sandbox loading and dumping sand. I can't believe how much he loves sandboxes!?
After, we took a hayride led by a tractor which took us around to the back of the farm where they grow Christmas trees. They were so beautiful! Makes me want a real tree this year (but then I think about the pine needles). ;) Then, our guide drove us to the remnants of the pumpkin patch. Andrew walked around looking at the pumpkins and liked looking at the ones that were really rotting away. After that, the driver took us back and dropped us off.
There was just enough time to head to the pig races at 1pm. We were kind of the back with arriving so late. But Daddy put Andrew on his shoulders so he could see. They had two races that went by really quicky.
After the races, we walked over to the cow train, which was running. Andrew and I managed one of the last seats so we didn't have to wait. Drew loved it so much that he wanted to ride it again immediately following. This time, Daddy went with him.
We were getting hungry so we headed towards the area where they sell food. Daddy got sausage on a stick while Andrew opted for PB&J. But mainly, he only cared about getting a bag of chips. And he ended up eating most of Daddy's sausage so we ended up buying another one.
After lunch, we rode the train again. This time, Andrew and I sat in the caboose. And next to the train ride, they had these jumping pillows that Andrew kept asking to jump on. He loved it! I wasn't sure how crazy he would get on them, but he behaved well. He tried to jump into another little boy, but once we told him he needed to stay away from jumping into other kids, he listened and did a great job of jumping nicely. He also enjoying just running on the pillow too. Later, a family was sitting on the pillow and Andrew just plopped down and sat right by them. It was pretty funny!
Daddy and I thought it was time to go home, but Andrew heard over the loud speaker the announcment for another upcoming round of pig races. For some reason, he wanted to go watch again. I am not sure if it was a stall tactic to stay longer or if he was that interested in the pigs. But we went over there either way. We had to wait like ten minutes and Andrew so tired that he almost fell asleep on my shoulder. But he didn't want to leave without seeing the race. Thankfully, he didn't have to wait much longer. The races started and finished; I am not sure that it was worth the wait for Andrew. But anyways, we made our way out of the farm to the car. Andrew conked out in the car in like fifteen minutes. I was surprised it took him that long!!
We had a great time and I glad we finally got to go. I know Andrew had a blast too because he kept asking for more Dewberry the whole rest of the day!
