We were invited to go to Josh's birthday party at the CMH this morning. Andrew was feeling a little under the weather starting yesterday. I wasn't sure if he was really sick or just a quick bug that was going to pass. And I wasn't sure if he was contagious. But this morning, when I told Andrew that I didn't think he was well enough to go to the party, he got so sad. I normally don't like to take him anywhere when he's mayble sick to avoid infecting any other kids, but the Children's Museum is notorious for germs and it's not like we haven't been infected lots of times at the museum. I let Aunt Anh know beforehand what was going on with Andrew and give her fair warning that Andrew was sick. She was very sweet and said it would be all right because she knew that other kids at the museum could be sick as well.
We arrived at the party and was escorted to Josh's party room, which happened to be in the Dragons & Fairies exhibit area, which is a display of Vietnamese culture--totally coincidental and totally ironic.
We said hello to the birthday boy and then, Andrew couldn't wait any longer to go run and play. Andrew and Josh played with the Vietnamese cuisine, musical instruments, boat, and motorcycle.
After all the playing, it was time to eat a little lunch. Anh and Richard had ordered pizza and Anh's mom made banh mi sandwiches too. After we ate, Andrew ran back out to play exploring more parts of the museum. Then, it was time for cake and candles. Andrew and Daddy were still playing somewhere and I couldn't find them (and Daddy didn't hear his phone ringing). By the time I did, they had sung the song and Josh had blown out the candles. :( But Andrew still made it back finally to get a piece of cake.
Daddy left to go to another birthday party (adult not kiddie) of one his former Rice classmates, but Andrew and I hung around longer to play. We first went to the library to read some books. And then we met up with Josh in the grocery store. The boys had so much fun scrambling around getting groceries and putting them in their baskets. After a short stint in Tot Spot, we headed back downstairs and played a little in PowerPlay where Josh and Andrew had fun dancing.
It was finally time to go home and get Andrew down for a nap. I had hoped that by staying so long at the museum, he would be so worn out and conk out in the car, but no luck. And then, he lied down in bed for two hours and never fell asleep. I couldn't believe it. I was so frustrated!! I finally gave up and took him downstairs to play. I figured if he skipped his nap, he could just go to bed early. I don't like for him to take a late nap and then go to bed so late. He wanted to watch a little Dora so I let him. And sure enough, he fell asleep like ten minutes into the episode. I carried upstairs and let him sleep with Daddy. Little punk!!
Anyhow, it was a great party. Andrew had such a great time. Thanks for the invite, guys! Happy 3rd Birthday, Josh! We love you very much!!
