Marie and I had met through Belinda at Evan's Halloween party at his school back last October. Her daughter, Anna, is a little younger than Evan and a little older than Andrew. Anyhow, we got to talking and hit it off. We had talked about getting together for a play date, but it never happened as she soon moved to Singapore for her husband's work. But they are back now; and we were able to finally have our play date together!
Marie and Anna hadn't been to the Children's Museum in a while and wanted to check it out, so we went there this morning. Anna is too cute. She is so calm and chunky...so the opposite of Andrew. Are all girls just so sweet?! Andrew and Anna weren't too into each other at first, but eventually started playing together...or next to each other. Andrew even followed her up and down the slide! And it was great to get to catch up with Marie too.
Marie also ran into one of her friends, Amy, who had bought the two kids of another mutual friend of hers and Belinda's. I had happened to meet Kaley and Connor during a previous visit to the museum while I was there with Belinda and Evan. Then, later, I recognized Kaley while she was there with Amy and Connor and got to meet Amy then. Such a small world...well, not really. Once you have kids, you seem to gain membership to the parenting club and end up meeting all these kids and parents seeing each other at parties or museums or zoos or wherever other activities. But anyway, we ended up all playing together and then, eating lunch together when the kids got hungry. We were there until after 1pm (we had gotten there when it opened at 10am) !! It was totally lots of fun--such a case of the more the merrier!! Andrew was so worn out. He totally conked out in less than ten minutes into the car ride home!
Andrew did well, but for one incident (yes, another one) of trying to grab a little boy's hair who was sitting in the play car next to him. Luckily for me (and Andrew), the boy wasn't hurt and didn't cry. But there were plenty of times where other kids were sitting next to him in the cars and he didn't give them any grief. He will have his moments, but the rest of the time, he will be great. He even hugged a few kids and tried to kiss a few others while we were there. It's so frustrating!! Andrew even did some really good sharing today. There were like two times he handed toys to kids out of the blue for no reason. Then, there was another time when he had two cars and a little girl wanted one of them; and he gave it to her. Granted, it was at my insistence, but he gave it up quickly, willingly, and without any fuss. I just wish I knew why he decides to be mean to some kids, but so sweet to others. I am so perplexed!! I guess it will just remain an unsolved mystery for now.
