This evening was Kavin's 1st birthday party. We were still in League City this afternoon because Andrew wanted to take a nap at the grandparents' house. He ended up taking an hour and 45 minute nap (versus his normal hour nap) already making us behind schedule. And we had to still drive up to our house to pick up the gift and Daddy.
We were about an hour late and the party was in full swing. Andrew was shy at first not knowing many people. It was just about time to eat dinner so we got a plate and sat down on the living room floor to eat. Aunt Brenda had ordered from Maggiano's; and Andrew ate very well liking the eggplant parmesan (apparently no allergies like Daddy), mushroom ravoli, and gnocchi.
After we ate, we let Andrew play with Kavin's toys. I had already "talked" to Andrew about how he was going to be the oldest kid there, but you really never know what he will comprehend. Kavin tried to grab his toys back from Andrew and Andrew was relunctant to let them go, but we explained that: (1) they were his toys to begin with; (2) he was the birthday boy; and (3) he really doesn't know about sharing too much. Andrew seemed okay after a little while and afterwards, was pretty good about not fighting back when Kavin grabbed toys. And it happened a lot--mainly because I think Kavin was so interested in Andrew and just wanted to play with him and it was the only way he knew how.
There were a few other little ones there too; and Andrew was pretty good with them. The only problem was when we were playing with balloons and Andrew got rather crazy trying to catch them. He wouldn't watch where he was going and would almost run into the other babies on the floor (luckily never running into any of them) as well as some nearby adults (unluckily some of whom ended up in Andrew's path).
We did the birthday cake (which Aunt Brenda impressively made herself) and Kavin was very cute about getting his hands into his cake and then mouth. He sure caught on quickly! After we ate cake and played some more, it was time to go home.
It was a fun party and we are glad we got to share in Kavin's first birthday! Happy 1st Birthday, little man! Thanks for inviting us!
