Today, we headed to Aunt Anh's and Josh's for a play date. I had been wanting to do an Easter egg hunt trial run before the real deal (and a little more low key compared to the potential madness of the other egg hunts) so I asked Anh if she would like to do one for the boys today. She was totally a great sport and said yes.
Of course, once we arrived, the boys wanted to play trains first. Soon it was time for lunch. We told the boys they had to eat a good lunch before we did the egg hunt. Got to love extortion!
As for hiding eggs, we couldn't very well let the boys stay inside while we hide. Yes, one of us could have stayed inside with them while the other hid them, but the boys couldn't wait to go outside. Moreover, we really didn't care about them seeing because then maybe they would find them better. So, Anh played with them on the swingset while I hid the eggs...basically in plain sight. Once I was done, it was time to release the hounds!
The boys were too too funny. They would see one egg and have to go after that one totally ignoring the other eggs that were closer to them or that were on the way to that egg. Then, they would just want to open the egg and forgot about the rest of the eggs left to still be found! But finally, after some coaxing, we told them to just keep putting the eggs in their basket. They were running all over the backyard, no rhyme or reason--just wherever they felt like finding eggs. And at different times, both boys sweetly helped the other find eggs and put them in their other one's basket!
Afterwards, they just plopped down, checked out their stashes, and played in the backyard. We let them have one piece of candy and play with some rubber balls and stickers. The pair of them did a great job on the egg hunt. Andrew seemed to get the hang of it after a year hiatus. They both seem to really have a good time. I would say it was a hit! Can't wait for Andrew to do it again!
