This afternoon, we went to the Lunar New Year 2001 celebration at the Viet Hoa supermarket in Bellaire. I had looked up to see what fun things we could do for New Years and came across an announcement for this. It looked like it could be fun; and since it was free, it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
After Andrew's nap, we headed that way to Bellaire. When we got close to the shopping strip, we saw an incredible line of traffic. We weren't sure we wanted to fight it so we opted to go grab a bit to eat at a restaurant first to eat and talk about what we wanted to do. As we ate, Andrew kept asking about going to the festival, so we thought we would give it a try.
Fortunately, traffic wasn't too bad after all. We managed to get to the parking lot and park the car without too much difficulty. We walked around the festival looking at the various booths and watched some of the performances including a martial arts demonstration and more lion dances. Andrew loved the lion dances again especially a green lion (we hadn't ever seen a green one before).
Later, we took a walk around the shopping center to see what stores they had. That was definitely my favorite part. We got some yummy pastries among other foods and a smoothie and found a table to eat. Andrew chose to get a kolache. He totally scarfed it down and asked for another one. So, I went back to the store to buy him one. He totally killed that one too.
Before we knew it, a couple of hours had passed by and it was time to go home and get ready for bed. We had a nice time and I am glad that Andrew got to celebrate New Year's one more time. I hope that he grows up loving this time of year as much as I did growing up.
