So, we have been going to speech therapy appointment since mid-February. When we first started, we were seeing Ms. Sally, But after a few sessions, she unfortunately fell ill and isn't able to work right now. In the interim, we were then meeting with Ms. Gretchen, who Andrew quickly bonded with. But we weren't able to keep seeing her because she didn't have availability in her schedule to see us regularly. Since then, we have been working with Ms. Mary and have settled quite nicely into a routine with her. Andrew is very comfortable with her and even gives her hugs at the end of our session. She's lots of fun and very encouraging and positive.
Since Andrew is younger, our sessions are thirty minutes long because of little kids' short attention span. He is cooperative and works hard for that half hour. Of course, like any toddler, he does get distracted and have to be redirected at least a few times, but they say that's normal.
Ms. Mary usually brings toys for Andrew to play with, such as trains, trucks, cooking, and whatever she thinks Andrew will enjoy. They have so many toys to mix it up. Moreover, they have all kinds of techniques to try to get Andrew to talk and to speak correctly. He kind of understands that he has to earn the toy by saying what is he supposed too. But there are times where he still tries to grab out of turn.
Thus far, I have to say therapy is going well. Andrew is doing wonderfully and trying to speak more. He is learning so much!! And I am learning a lot too as they teach me ways to continue his therapy at home. Andrew loves getting his little treat and lollipop after we are done with his sessions. We have been very happy with the progress so far. I couldn't be more happier with how things are going; and I have faith that therapy will help him get where he needs to be.
Ms. Mary was really sweet today bringing Andrew a fire truck puzzle for us to play with during our session and then allowing us to bring it home to play with while we work at home. He was so into putting it together tonight!
For point of information, in the first picture, Andrew was saying he was driving the fire truck.
