I took Andrew to his first dentist appointment this morning. We had been talking to Andrew for a while now getting him mentally prepared for the visit. We told him the dentist was going to check his teeth and clean them a little if needed.
I had gotten several referrals for Dr. Mark Urbach. He specializes in pediatric dentistry and I had heard that he has a train in his office. So I figured that would be a positive thing for Andrew. Drew was a little apprehensive and nervous as to be expected before and when we are arrived at the office. But seeing all the cartoon characters and the train helped him out a bit.
When we were called back into the examining room, there were about four chairs and lots of toys. He did get a little fussy when the hygenist was cleaning his teeth, but he was better after he got to pick his own toothpaste flavor (watermelon). Then, he finally settled down and did great after that.
Andrew was the only kid in the room that wasn't crying or throwing a fit. You could tell he was wondering why everyone else was crying and if he shouldn't be crying too. But he did really well for both the hygenist and Dr. Urbach, who said that everything looked great and was very complimentary.
I totally deem Andrew's first dentist visit a huge success!! Hopefully, the next time will be just as good.
I didn't get to take many photos, but here is Andrew playing with some toys while we were waiting in the examining room and after the appointment checking out his goody bag. I ended up seating in the seat with Andrew to give him some support so I didn't get to take photos of his actual examination.
