Last night, Anh Thu and I and all the kids drove up to Brian Head, Utah. Daddy (who came in Friday night), Uncle Rick, and Uncle Foo had driven up ahead of us yesterday morning so that they could have most of the day snowboarding with Uncle David and Aunt Dina who drove up from Albuquerque. The girls had ballet so we stayed back until they were done.
It was a crazy day. Yesterday, Rick hurt his wrist trying snowboarding for the first time and that was bad enough. But the worse was yet to come. Cara, Emma, and Brennan were enrolled in ski school so that they could get better at skiing. But on their first run down the hill, Cara wasn't able to stop properly and end up hitting a tree. Andrew and I were playing in the snow nearby and I immediately ran over to her. I was so scared. But I heard her crying so I knew she was conscious at least. She had hit her head on the tree and her leg was all tangled up in one of the branches. I was scared she had broken her leg. But luckily for us, we have a doctor in the family and David immediately examined her. He assessed that she didn't break her leg so we were able to move her with the help of some of the medical guys that work at the ski resort. Everyone checked her out and it was determined that she was okay. It was a miracle!! It could have been so bad, but luckily, no major injuries. We all went up to the ski lodge to get some hot chocolate and sit with her for a while. She later felt a little dizzy so Uncle Rick was going to take her to the closest hospital. Daddy offered to drive since Rick's wrist was still a little tender and he was in a brace and to also provide a little moral support.
After, everyone went back to snowboarding and even Anh Thu got into the mix and tried it for the first time as well. Emma and Brennan did fantastic and loved skiing even more.
The original plan was that James was going to board yesterday and watch Andrew while I boarded today. But with everything that happened, it was the right decision for Daddy to go with Rick and Cara. Although I was disappointed that I didn't get to go snowboarding, there will be other opportunities. I had a great time with Andrew just hanging around playing in the snow and drinking more hot chocolate. We had lots of fun together and it was a good day for some mother/son bonding. David and Anh Tuan were kind enough to take him for some short little rides on the snowboard with the two of them sitting down on the board. He had a good time doing that.
Even with all the injuries, it was a fun trip to Brian Head. I have included a few photos and videos here, but I have posted the rest of the photos on shutterfly in album #1 and #2.
