Today, we took Andrew to the Happiest Place on Earth...Disneyland! I know he's a little young to be going, but we were already in Californina, so why not!?
We got to the park and was surprised to hear some familiar sounds upon entering Disneyland...the University of Texas Longhorn band. They were playing right at the entrance. What a nice and welcoming surprise! We then headed off to ride some rides and see some sights. Andrew was totally looking all around and was taking it all in. When we first got to the castle, we saw Cinderella's Fairy Godmother with whom Jayda wanted to take pictures. Then, we rode the Storybook Land Canal Boats first and then the Casey Jr. Circus Train, which was cool because Andrew has watched video snippets of it on youtube.
Then, we walked over to Critter Country and rode The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I was kind of worried that Andrew might get scared, but he was just so intrigued. Duc and Jayda were great sports about it all especially having to ride so many freaking trains! But Jayda did want to ride Splash Mountain so it was the least we could do to abide her. So, Duc took her to ride that while we got Andrew a bite to eat.
Next, we walked over to board the Disneyland Railroad, which Andrew really enjoyed. It took us across the park where we deboarded at Tomorrowland so we could ride the Monorail next. Andrew kept seeing the Monorail go around the park on its elevated track and wanted to ride it so badly. It was the longest line of the day...almost 45 minutes, which is like forever with a toddler. But it was worth the wait. We ended up being the first people on our train so we picked the end car with these big windows so we could see lots more of the park.
By the time we got off, it was dark and pretty late. James and I didn't have a set time to leave, but just wanted to play it by ear and see how Andrew faired throughout the day. We couldn't believe how long he lasted. Though, before we left, I wanted to buy him his Mickey Mouse ears, but he wouldn't wear it. I was so bummed. But I should have bought it when we first got there. But I was so excited to just get in the park that I totally put it off and forgot.
I didn't take a whole bunch of pictures because I was busy looking at the sights too and just forgot to take out the camera. Most of the downtime was spent trying to keep Andrew happy about having to wait for the rides. I can't believe I didn't take more. Oh well, even more reason to go back another time!
Anyhow, as we made our way back, Andrew fell asleep of course. So did Jayda. We met the rest of Duc's family at a restaurant owned by their family friends. So yummy!!! At the end of the meal, Andrew left with Duc's stepchildren, Joyelle, J'Rick, and Josie to get bubble tea and smoothies. I couldn't believe he just left with him. But five minutes later, J'Rick returned with Andrew who had been asking for Mama. That's more like it! Then, we went to Duc's house where his older brother, Nhat, stopped by to see us for a little bit with his youngest daughter, Kyana.
It was an awesome day! I can't wait to bring Andrew back when he's older and can have even more fun!!
Some of my favorites snapshots (that we did manage to take) from the day, but the rest (though limited) are on shutterfly.
