The Strattons

Our dear friends and soccer cohorts hosted a dinner party tonight at their house and we had such a great time.

Andrew ran around and played like a crazy man. The kids played inside and then moved outside. But the mosquitoes were out with a vengeance so I asked Andrew to play inside so he wouldn't get bit. He played lots with Mac and Palmer and they played a lot of super hero and play fighting. Such boys they are!!

Gray and Chiarra had an amazing spread and everything was delicious. We got to talk with them along with the Hobbs and McNultys. It was so nice getting to chat and hang out.

Andrew was having so much fun he didn't want to leave. But we finally got him to (after lots of persuading on our part).

It was really such a wonderful night with good friends. We had almost as much fun as Andrew--almost!

Superman's Birthday at CMH

After the game, we drove over the Children's Museum where they were hosting a birthday bash for Superman. Andrew was so excited about it. We arrived just as the main celebration was finishing up. There was dancing still going on, but Andrew didn't want to partake in that. And as we searched for Superman (I told Andrew that he wasn't the real Superman and he was okay with that), I asked an employee who stated that he was taking a little break, but would be walking around the museum shortly.

We decided to go around the museum and play for a bit. Andrew did one of the activities they had set up where you could make your own cape. And then we headed downstairs to build. Andrew and I built a rocket and he enjoyed launching it. I am getting much better at making them, that's for sure. Next, he wanted to do the obstacle course next door and the power tower.

It was getting about time to leave so we told Andrew that we should go look for Superman and sure enough, we found it by the entrance. it was a short line so we waited a few minutes for our photo op. The gentlemen was very nice and even commented to Andrew about his Superman shirt.

It was a fun little event. I am glad the museum put it on because it totally made my son so very happy!!

YMCA Summer 2012 Soccer Game #3: Team New England @ Salt Lake

For today's game, Andrew played both defense and offense. He ran around a lot and got to the ball well. He did have a couple of shots on goal, but one missed to the side and the other was saved by the goalie. He was a little disappointed he didn't score, but it didn't bother him too much or too long. We kept telling him that he played well and that's all that mattered.

Joey's and Katie's Pre Wedding Dinner

We attended Joey's and Katie's pre-wedding dinner this evening. Joey Forrest is a very good friend of John's and over the years, has befriended the entire Lenz family. The wedding is here in Houston tomorrow and they were kind of us to invite us, but since we have Andrew's soccer game, we opted to just attend the dinner tonight.

Ngoai came up to watch Andrew for us and we headed over the Cyclone Anaya's for the dinner. Nonna was already there when we arrived. We sat and ate and got to talk with some of friends of John's and James's. It was nice getting to see and meet so many friends.

We are so happy for Joey and Katie and wish them the best.

Testing at TCH

We needed to do two different tests on Andrew at Texas Children's Hospital and fortunately, they were able to scheduled them back to back today.

First, we did a sweat test to rule out cystic fibrosis. Daddy thought maybe Andrew had it with all his problems with coughing and asthma and then with the deletion on his chromosome. Since it's a pretty noninvasive test, we thought we should just go ahead and rule it out.

Andrew was a little scared at first. The nurse let him watch a video about how the test would proceed and it was actually the same video that I had shown him at home when I was trying to prepare him. He ended up touching his arm after the nurse had cleaned the area so she had to clean it again. Then, he finally settled down and was great after that. She had some videos to watch to help pass the time and Andrew chose Bob the Builder.

After the sweat test, we went to another room to get his blood drawn for the genetic study about the speech delay since we didn't want Andrew to do the MRI and Dr. Lalani said a blood sample should be fine. I had told him about it and of course, he was pretty nervous and scared about the needle. But I told him that it would just hurt for one second and they would use a very small needle. He was very antsy even with me sitting in the chair with him. But I could tell he was too scared so I just covered his eyes and held down his arms and the nurse was able to prick him quickly. Then, he was fine and good about watching the blood go into the vial.

Of course, it was all over in no time and Andrew was quickly consoled by the nurse who offered him stickers. Stickers make everything better!!

I was very proud of Andrew and how he handled himself. I know he was scared and he had every right to be, but he pulled through like a champ. He was such a very brave boy.

Happy Birthday, Papa!

Since we weren't able to Skype with Papa today, we made this video and sent it to him.

Happy Birthday, Papa! We love you so very much and miss you tons!

15th Year Anniversary and Coldplay

Last night, James and I had an early celebration for our fifteenth anniversary of dating exclusively. We normally don't celebrate this anniversary but since it was fifteen we decided that we should do something. And when I found out that Coldplay was coming to Houston for a couple of shows, I thought it would be a perfect way to commemorate the occasion.

I didn't want to ask Ngoai to babysit since it was a weekday night and she would have to work the next morning. So, I had asked Mr. Sanchez or Ms. Edgett if they could watch Andrew. Luckily, Mr. Sanchez was free and agreed to help us out. And I felt completely safe and comfortable with him babysitting since who else can watch our son than the man who watches almost every day!! And Andrew was very excited to have him as his babysitter as well. He had been planning out what they were going to play while they were together.

Andrew mostly wanted to play super heroes and LEGOs with him. And they end up playing Batman Brave and the Bold on the Wii. Mr. Sanchez said Andrew was great for him and went down to bed very easily.

As for the concert, it was amazing. They played so many of our favorite songs and put on a really spectacular show. One cool thing they did was give every one these bracelets which were programmed to light up whenever they wanted. It was cool to see the whole arena lit up like that.

We are so glad that we got to go and celebrate fifteen wonderful years of dating. I love you, babe!!

Happy 52nd Month Birthday

Our little boy is growing up and really getting to do more "big boy" things. For example, Andrew has been doing quite a bit of playing video games and apps on the iPad. James and Andrew just started playing Cars 2, Super Hero Squad and Batman on the Wii. And in terms of iPad apps, Andrew's favorites are Smurfs and Bakery Story.

He still enjoys watching Curious George, but he has added Super Hero Squad into the mix. As for movies, he watches Madagascar and Madagascar 2 on the iPad the most. And he loves listening to the Lorax soundtrack especially Let It Grow and How Bad Can I Be? as well as the Madagascar 3 soundtrack. His two favorite tunes off that CD is Firework and Afrocircus.

His favorite LEGOs right now are LEGO City police and super heroes. He never tires of playing where the good guys get the bad guys. Usually he has the bad guys robbing the bank and going to their hideout and then the police come after them like one of the LEGO books we have.

Drew's eating is still pretty hearty. He definitely is very much the carnivore--eating lots of thit nuong and Mongolian Beef when he can. His favorite two vegetable are broccoli and corn on the cob. He still does a very good job of eating fruits including blueberries, strawberries, and grapes. His most requested breakfast is kolaches by a landslide, but he still likes to eat Eggo waffles and Toaster Strudel

Daddy has been letting Andrew drink more Gatorade and Vitamin Water. Andrew likes to pick out the flavors usually picking lemon lime or fruit punch Gatorade (sometimes orange and grape). As for Vitamin Water, he will pick red or pinks ones and I am not quite sure why that is.

We are still having Andrew practice write his letters and numbers. He sometimes does them backwards like S and J as well as mixing up lower-cased b and d. In regards to learning how to read, he is pretty proficient on knowing what sounds the letters make. However, he is still having a harder time with blending the sounds together to form the word, but is starting to get the hang of it. He has memorized of how to spell and read words like exit, stop, map, etc.

Andrew's independence continues to increase. He is much better at dressing himself though he still can't do buttons and zippers. To be honest, I don't even make him try. I guess I should so that he can learn it all the more quicker. And lately, he has been wanting to open and close the doors to the cars. I don't have a problem with opening the doors, but I am not too thrilled about closing them. I tell him to watch his fingers and so far he hasn't slammed any of his fingers...yet.

Speaking of clothes, he asks to wear t-shirts now instead of polo knits. And of course, his most prized shirts are his super hero ones. I can still tell him to wear polo knits like for nice occasions and church, but if it is like school or routine places, he is all about the tees!

He is fairly good about helping me clean up when I am tidying up a bit and especially likes to clean up his toys when that happens. One day, I was organizing his toys and took out quite a few baby toys to be put in storage. And he was on board helping me pick them out. He even tells me that we should give some toys away to Goodwill

Also, he is still pretty good about putting himself to sleep. He will still come out or yell to us from his room, but it is not near the amount he did it beforehand. And there are lots more nights where he doesn't come out at all.

Andrew was very much ready to go to summer camp this year and it's been totally seamless having Mr. Sanchez and Ms. Edgett again along with some friends from last year's class. He loves when they have Messy Day--he looks forward to that part every week!! Which is funny considering he was tentative at first about it saying he was scared about getting too messy or too muddy. I told him just try it out and that it was okay if he didn't do anything he didn't feel like doing. And sure enough, after the first one, he was hooked. Ms. Edgett said he totally had a blast!

And speaking of Mr. Sanchez, Drew loved having him as a babysitter and asked when we can have him again. I am so glad that we found a really great babysitter (who is not a relative).

Our little fish enjoys swimming, but still says he doesn't want to go to swim lessons. I told him if he does well during the summer with Daddy and me, then we won't have to go this summer. So, we shall see how that goes.

Drew keeps talking about his next birthday and Christmas. He will go around the toy section and tell me what he thinks he might want for gifts. Luckily, he is complacent with waiting until Christmas or his birthday for whatever he has picked out--usually the bigger sets of LEGOs.

He also talks about what theme he wants at his party. The usual suspects are fire trucks, Madagascar, airplanes, or pirates. And he asks when he is going to be five even though when I turn it around on him and ask him, he knows it's "February 24" (as opposed to February 24th).

Andrew's most desired destinations are currently Disneyland (for Cars Land that just opened up recently), New York (to ride the subway again), and Korea (to visit Papa).

Uncle Hung was doing a tune up on the truck so we had borrowed Papa's car so we didn't have to go without a car for the couple of days he was working out. Andrew has always liked Papa's car, but now he really loves it. He totally wants to put the top down even it's too hot outside. He even insists on pushing the buttons to initiate the top going down or back up.

Andrew has been thinking a lot more about what he wants to be when he grows up. Some days, he says he wants to work at Rice with Daddy. And then there are other days, when he says he wants to be a fireman and usually talks like he will work at the fire station close to our house. One afternoon, he told me that he would go to work at the fire station, get off work, and then stop at HEB to buy groceries for dinner. I love how he thinks that we will still live in our house all together even when he grows up. Oh, there have been a few times when Andrew says he will build houses and build us a bigger house for us to live in. In addition, he was very adamant about telling me that "there can be two daddies in the house" meaning James and him. He said he wants two kids.

One not-so-great thing he does lately is gets a little attitude. There have been a few times when he will blow a raspberry at me when I reprimanding him--which normally gets him into even more trouble.

Telfair Pool

Aunt Belinda invited us to join their family at the Telfair pool this morning. Their neighborhood pool is way cool with a playground in the water as well as water slides (even Daddy took a turn on the water slide)! Andrew had a blast especially getting to play with Evan. The kids played with lots of the pool toys and did a lot of swimming.

After the pool, they invited us back to their house to clean up and let the kids play some more. So, the fun continued over at their house.

We love getting to spend whatever time we can with the Lins so it was a great play date.

YMCA Summer 2012 Soccer Game #2: Team New England vs. Toronto

We had our second soccer game of the season today. Daddy had to work so I tried to help out in the goal while Coach Paige and Coach Wesley led the team. Thus, why I didn't get as many photos or videos as I normally do.

Andrew played mostly defense with a little bit of play at offense. He did pretty well having a few shots on goal, but unfortunately for us, the goalie was able to save all of them.

Polar Bears

This year's theme for summer camp is Ocean Adventures and this session specifically is the Polar Seas. This week, Andrew has been learning about things like the Artic and Antarctic, polar bears and penquins.

Andrew did this polar bear for art work and since it's been a while that I have shared any of his art pieces, I thought I would post this one.

Alexander Cole Manard

Baby Alexander made his debut last week and we went to meet him today. Andrew was very sweet and gentle with him, but enjoyed playing with Mia more than anything.

Anyways, we are so happy that Alexander is here and look forward to watching him grow up.

Congratulations, Monica and Josh!! We are so happy for you guys. Love you!

SLDS Summer Camp

Today was Andrew's first day at summer camp. I had purposely signed up Andrew for only a few sessions this summer so he could have a break from school and so that we can see some friends and do some things on our own. But let me just say, Andrew has been so excited about going to summer camp. And the icing on the cake is that he is back with Mr. Sanchez and Ms. Edgett and some of his friends so he is so very happy. He just walked into the class like the school year and immediately started playing in the block center with Jonathan.

Happy Father's Day

We didn't do much for Father's Day. We tried to let Daddy relax as much as we could before and after the party. But sadly, it wasn't here as much as he deserved or we would have liked him too.

But I just wanted to give the best daddy in the world a shout out. James, we love you so much and we can't thank you enough for all that you do. Happy Father's Day!!

Janie was sweet to order a cake for all the dads at the party and here is the group picture of them.

Selene's 4th and Jolie's 2nd Birthday Party

We made another trip to Sugar Land today for Selene's and Jolie's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese.

Andrew played a lot of games--mostly the ones when he earns tickets. He accumulated quite a bit and got to get some prizes. He enjoyed the musical show evening dancing a bit. It was a very nice party and Andrew had fun of course. And we had a nice time getting to catch up with David and Janie and some other friends.

MaryAnn's and Scott's New House

After our soccer game, we drove out to Sugar Land to spend the afternoon with Mary Ann and Scott at their new house. They had invited some friends over for fajitas and swimming.

Andrew must have spent at least three hours in the pool. He had such a great time swimming. And Mary Ann's and Scott's friends were very kind to him and some of them even played with him too.

We had a wonderful time. Andrew didn't want to go home, but he had been a long day and he needed to get some rest.

Congratulations on the new house!! And thanks for having us all over.

YMCA Summer 2012 Soccer Game #1: Team New England @ Philly

Our first game as Team New England was today. Andrew played very well--playing a little bit of offense, but primarily defense. We took him out of the game the last quarter and he cried because he wanted to play more. We weren't happy about the whining part, but glad he wanted to play so badly.

Sadly, we didn't score any goals and pretty much got creamed by the other team. but we do have a good number of kids that haven't played soccer before so we know there is going to a big learning curve.
