Via Colori

Today, we went to Via Colori, an art festival in Downtown where Cousin Hung was participating as one of the artists. Hung has been involved in Via Colori for three years now, but this was our first time we were able to go check it out and go support him.

We arrived a little after noon to give the artists some time to work on their pieces. When we found Hung, he had just drawn the grid as he gotten a late start (slept in--poor kid is super busy with so many different things). Since we wanted to give him some time to work, we said we would go walk around and check things out. Daddy led us to the nearby park, which was very pretty. I had driven past it many times and always wanted to see it closer, but never had. There was a duck pond, which Andrew always loves to look at. We continued to walk around the grounds some more.

Then, we decided to get some food. Andrew chose hot dogs while Daddy and I ordered from beef fajita tacos, which were decent. I told Hung I would get his lunch so he could continue to work on his art. He was given a pass for a free lunch so he chose chicken nachos. After we brought it to him, we wanted to walk around some more to take Andrew to get his face painted. There were a lot of booths that we stopped by and looked at on the way and of course, we also perused the other pieces the other artists were working on. I am always in amazement of the talent of artists.

We came upon the face painting booth and got in line. I asked him what he wanted to be painted on his face and of course, he said "train". I explained to him that I wasn't sure if they would be able to paint that and if not, what else might he want. He replied "fire truck". Ha ha! I asked him if he would want a Longhorn since he was already in his gameday gear. He wasn't too enthusiastic about that. But when he saw two girls with Christmas trees on their cheeks, he said that he wanted that too. When it was our turn, we asked the girl for a train and she was a little taken aback. I told her we knew it wasn't the most obvious request, but if she could just do the best she could that would would be good enough. Andrew chose a green train and it turned out pretty good considering. He moved a little bit during the painting and one of the wheels ended up lobsided, but no worries there. And when we were done, he tried to touch it and ended up smearning a little part of it too, but again, no worries there either.

Then, we walked back to Hung's square where he was working away. I asked him if Andrew could draw a little bit on the sidewalk behind and away from all the squares and he said it would be okay. Andrew picked out green and blue chalk and drew a little bit. By then, it was getting late and Andrew was getting pretty tired (he almost fell asleep on the drive in to the festival). So, we said our goodbyes and walked back to the car. Andrew conked out in like five minutes into the ride home.

It was a neat experience getting to go out to the festival. I regretted not being able to go the previous two years, but am happy we got to go this year. Like I said, I am in awe of artist's creative abilities. And I am really proud of Hung and his talent. I am glad we could go out and support him for a little bit. And Andrew had a good time to boot so that's always a plus!

Below are some pictures from today including the last five, which Hung sent over to me that his friend took later today.
